Portable Video

Soon, when everybody has a portable video player (ala Video iPod, Sony PSP, or whatever), you'll be able to take your Tivo'd programs to the café, to the beach, or parties. This frees us from having to stay at home, or invite large groups over to our messy apartments if we want to be social. What if we had some sort of ICQ, Friendster or mySpace hook up such that if someone near you were watching something you like, you'd know about it?

I guess that would be neat, but I have to say if I'm going to a party, I want to see people, not watch teeny-tiny videos. Especially if I'm going to a place that doesn't have a DVD player.

Almost everyone I know has one, so I can always bring over a compact disc if we want to watch something.

On the other hand, it'd be great to be able to transport TV episodes easily (and share/loan them with others) without having a DVD burner. A lot of TV shows take quite a while to come out on disc.

I'm worried about the trend of "smaller = better" colliding with maximum video choices. I don't want to watch anything the size of my thumb nail
