Lego™ Mindstorms NXT Now Available!
If you follow such things, you'll know that Lego has had some financial difficulties in the last few years. First, their plan to license various children's brands like the various Star Wars, Harry Potter and Spider-man did not sell that well. Then, the children (and parental pocketbooks) of today seem to prefer videogames and other, non-creative toys. Their wondrous robotics set, Mindstorms, came out back in 1998, but it was the adults that jumped on to it more so than the kids.
But never mind all that. Lego just released a totally new incarnation of Mindstorms, complete with a new faster computer-in-a-brick, more sensors, improved motors, and an Open Source software development kit! (Lego realized early on that letting go and allowing customers to improve and tinker actually IMPROVED sales, compared with suing them. Go figure! Hear that, Sony? *ahem*)
Pictured here is a young Artoo unit, slaving away at household chores until old enough to join the Rebellion.
